The story shown in Ryszard Bugajski’s film is an attempt to reconstract the final years in the life of the legendary leader of KeDyw (Directorate of Sabotage and Diversion) of Armia Krajowa (Home Army), Brigadier General August Emil Fieldorf, nom de guerre “Nil”. It begins with his return from the forced exile deep into the Soviet Union, where he was sent after his 1945 capture by NKVD, and ends with his execution in the Mokotow prison in winter 1953. The storyline is accompanied by flashbacks from the period of German occupation and the conspiratorial work of the general, in particular the assasination of the SS and Police General Franz Kutschera.
