Subtitled: "Private War of Rafał Gan-Ganowicz", it is a gripping tale of a lifetime consumed by hatred of communism and its most visible manifestation - the Soviet Union. Having lost both his parents in World War II, the then 13-year-old Rafał witnesses brutality and destruction unleashed by the Red Army “liberators” and determines to fight the Soviet menace any way he can, preferably in an armed struggle. After escaping to the West a few years later, he finds his opportunity in some of the many “proxy wars” waged by and against the Soviets in 3rd world countries, during decades of what is known, misleadingly, as the “Cold” War - he becomes a mercenary, first in Congo, later in Yemen. Rafał Gan-Ganowicz returned to Poland in 1997 and died five years later at the age of 70. His persona and his life’s story has become legendary in Poland.
